Biografía. / Biography.

Marta Barceló tiene un recorrido atípico. Se licenció en Arte Dramático en el Institut del Teatre de Barcelona, en la especialidad de Interpretación, y más concretamente, de teatro físico. Después viajó a Londres donde estuvo dos años en una escuela de circo. Durante veinte años ha trabajado con su propia productora, Res de Res i en Blanc, creando e interpretando espectáculos de teatro físico y circo. Cuando bajaba de los trapecios y las cuerdas, también escribía. Su formación como autora teatral de texto la ha ido consiguiendo a través de cursos y talleres con dramaturgos (José Sanchis Sinisterra, Sergi Belbel, María Velasco, Denise Duncan, Helena Tornero, Josep Maria Miró...). Ha trabajado también en guión televisivo durante más de quince años, en el canal autonómico balear, lo que le ha dado disciplina y oficio. Confiesa que nunca empieza a escribir por el principio de la obra y cuando empieza, nunca sabe tampoco la estructura que tendrá. Piensa que eso es una herencia que le ha quedado de todos los años en que se ha dedicado al teatro de creación físico.

Marta Barceló has had an unconventional career path. She earned a degree in Dramatic Arts from the Institut del Teatre de Barcelona, specializing in Acting, specifically in physical theatre. She then traveled to London, where she spent two years at a circus school. For twenty years, she worked with her own production company, Res de Res i en Blanc, creating and performing physical theatre and circus shows. When she wasn’t on the trapeze or ropes, she was also writing. Her training as a playwright has come through courses and workshops with dramatists such as José Sanchis Sinisterra, Sergi Belbel, María Velasco, Denise Duncan, Helena Tornero, and Josep Maria Miró. She has also worked as a television scriptwriter for over fifteen years at the Balearic regional channel, an experience that has given her discipline and craftsmanship. She admits that she never starts writing from the beginning of a play, and when she does begin, she never knows what its structure will be. She believes this is a legacy from all the years she spent dedicated to physical theatre creation.

Escritura. / Style.

«Empecé escribiendo mi diario, a los seis años, y aquí continuo, escribiendo todavía. No en los mismos términos, pero sí sigo ahondando en las emociones y los vínculos. Creo que siempre ando escribiendo sobre lo mismo (familia, especialmente madres/hijas, miedo a la muerte, identidad, memoria), aunque claro, son temas universales que están siempre ahí. No concibo la escritura sin drama, pero tampoco sin sentido del humor, que me parece imprescindible para aportar siempre un punto de vista fresco y diferente, y equilibrar todas las balanzas. Escribo por necesidad, para vaciarme y para construirme, para soltar lastre y dejar espacio, me dejo la piel en cada obra y reescribo hasta el infinito.» (Marta Barceló).

«I started writing my diary when I was six years old, and here I am, still writing. Not in the same way, but still delving into emotions and relationships. I think I’m always writing about the same things (family, especially mothers and daughters, fear of death, identity, memory), although, of course, these are universal themes that are always present. I can't conceive of writing without drama, but also not without a sense of humor, which I find essential to always offer a fresh and different perspective and to balance everything out. I write out of necessity—to empty myself and to rebuild myself, to shed burdens and make space. I put my heart and soul into every work and rewrite endlessly.» (Marta Barceló).
