Sinopsis. / Synopsis.

Nold Reborn es un influencer carismático que promete riqueza y valores a la juventud, hasta que un día desaparece sin dejar rastro. Su hermana y un seguidor adolescente emprenden un viaje para encontrarlo y entender cómo alguien puede acabar convertido en un extremista digital. Burpees es un road-drama que transita entre la búsqueda y la memoria para poner el foco en el fenómeno de la radicalización online.

Nold Reborn is a charismatic influencer who promises wealth and values to young people, until one day he disappears without a trace. His sister and a teenage follower set out on a journey to find him and to understand how someone can end up becoming a digital extremist. Burpees is a road drama that moves between search and memory, focusing on the phenomenon of online radicalisation.

Escribo Burpees des de la necesidad de hablar, en un lenguaje directo, estimulante y libre, sobre aquellos gurús de la machoesfera que predican el mensaje de "si quieres, puedes" desde el privilegio, con la voluntad que todo el mundo, y más las nuevas generaciones, entiendan que estos falsos filósofos del dinero tienen sus miedos, sus contradicciones y sobretodo un origen.

I write Burpees out of the need to speak, in a direct, stimulating and free language, about those gurus of the manosphere who preach the message “if you want it, you can do it” from a position of privilege, with the aim that everyone—and especially new generations—understand that these false philosophers of money have their fears, their contradictions, and above all, an origin.

Biografía. / Biography.

«Me crié en un pueblo de Mallorca haciendo teatro amateur por toda la isla, con sillas blancas, niños tirando petardos de fondo y mucho humor. Soy hijo de un teatro popular que atrae a todos los públicos y creo que hay algo de mi teatro que sigue con esa filosofía de querer pasármelo bien. Gané una beca con 20 años para estudiar en el Obrador de la Sala Beckett con Sergi Belbel, y desde entonces no he parado de escribir. En 2019, cuando acabé Publicidad y Relaciones Públicas, me fui a estudiar Dramaturgia y Dirección al Institut del Teatre, y desde entonces me estoy especializando en la adaptación de clásicos y en apostar por un teatro popular, crítico y que acerque a las nuevas generaciones a las plateas. Desde 2022 tengo la suerte de ser el director residente del Teatre Tantarantana, donde he podido estrenar y probar mis textos y mis gusanitos teatrales.» (Miquel Mas Fiol).

«I grew up in a small town in Mallorca doing amateur theatre all over the island, with white plastic chairs, kids setting off firecrackers in the background, and lots of humour. I am the son of a kind of popular theatre that draws in all kinds of audiences, and I think something of that philosophy—of wanting to enjoy myself—still runs through my work. At 20, I won a scholarship to study at the Obrador de la Sala Beckett with Sergi Belbel, and since then I haven’t stopped writing. In 2019, after finishing a degree in Advertising and Public Relations, I went on to study Playwriting and Directing at the Institut del Teatre, and since then I have been specialising in adapting classics and in championing a popular, critical kind of theatre that brings new generations into the stalls. Since 2022, I’ve had the good fortune to be the resident director at Teatre Tantarantana, where I’ve been able to premiere and experiment with my texts and my little theatrical obsessions.» (Miquel Mas Fiol).

Escritura. / Style.

«Mi escritura siempre ha estado ligada a la comedia ácida ya la denuncia de la hipocresía social. Estudiando Publicidad, me di cuenta de un concepto fascinante: el "insight comunicativo". Un insight son todos aquellos pensamientos, a golpes ocultos, que todos hemos pensado y que nos da miedo expresar en público. Son deseos compartidos que no queremos verbalizar y tapamos con la máscara social. Mi teatro gira en torno a desvelar estos insights y sacar las caretas sociales a golpes de humor.» (Miquel Mas Fiol).

«My writing has always been linked to acidic comedy and to exposing social hypocrisy. While studying Advertising, I discovered a fascinating concept: the ‘communication insight’. An insight consists of those hidden, half-suppressed thoughts that we have all had at some point and are afraid to express in public. They are shared desires we do not want to verbalise and instead conceal behind a social mask. My theatre revolves around revealing these insights and stripping away social façades through humour.» (Miquel Mas Fiol).
