Biografía. / Biography.

«Empecé a escribir muy pronto. Lo primero fue un cuento de Navidad que ganó un premio en la Parroquia de mi barrio; tenía 7 años y creo que fue ahí donde se decidió mi futura relación con las historias pero pronto me abandonó la fé y aunque me volví escéptica no dejé de escribir. Estudié periodismo y me especialicé en comunicación audiovisual y empecé a maridar la palabra con la imagen. Luego llegó el teatro. Empecé a devorar libros, a pasarme la vida en las salas, me apunté a varias escuelas, comencé a representar lo que escribía, a escribir para otros actores, me matriculé en la Resad. He tenido el placer de estudiar con grandes firmas del periodismo y de la literatura y, por supuesto, del teatro. Marifé Santigo, Laila Ripoll, Margarita Piñero, Ignacio García May, Itziar Pascual, Yolanda Pallín, tantos otros... y todos me han dejado una impronta que ha ayudado a construir mi propia voz. Ahora expreso desde un fondo heterogéneo, lleno de influencias, sí, pero exclusivo. Sé que escribo, en palabras de Lorca, para poner la palabra en pie, para hacerla viajera, para darle el lugar que merece y también para saber quién soy. Cada día.» (Lola G. Otero).

«I began writing very early. The first thing I wrote was a Christmas story that won a prize at my neighborhood parish; I was 7 years old, and I believe it was then that my relationship with storytelling was decided. But soon, faith abandoned me, and though I became skeptical, I never stopped writing. I studied journalism and specialized in audiovisual communication, starting to pair words with images. Then came theater. I began devouring books, spending my life in theaters, enrolling in various schools, performing what I wrote, and writing for other actors. I eventually enrolled at RESAD. I've had the pleasure of learning from great figures in journalism, literature, and, of course, theater. Marifé Santiago, Laila Ripoll, Margarita Piñero, Ignacio García May, Itziar Pascual, Yolanda Pallín, and so many others have all left their mark, helping me build my own voice. Now I express myself from a diverse background—full of influences, yes, but uniquely mine. I know I write, in Lorca's words, to "set the word upright," to make it a traveler, to give it the place it deserves, and also to discover who I am. Every single day.» (Lola G. Otero).

Escritura. / Style.

«Escribo sobre lo que veo, lo que oigo, los susurros que escucho en las calles oscuras, las miradas que huyen, las risas, los silencios. A menudo el producto de mi obra tiene que ver con la vida, refleja el milagro que se esconde entre las cosas cotidianas. Otras veces es denuncia, mi palabra se empeña en demostrar que otro mundo es posible. Puedo ser crítica o escéptica, mis personajes no siempre son humanos, a veces son objetos, animales, ideas que cobran cuerpo porque han de ser expresadas, tal vez para provocar respuesta y mover las cosas. Me apasionan las ciencias, la música, el cine, todo eso nutre mi dramaturgia, todo aquello capaz de remover paradigmas antiguos y ofrecer perspectivas renovadas. Escribo, creo, desde la vida misma, desde dentro y desde fuera, me dejo seducir por las ideas y las convierto en temas, el resto es oficio.» (Lola G. Otero).

«I write about what I see and what I hear; the whispers I hear in the dark streets, the sudden glances, the laughter and silences. My work is often based on the concept of life, reflecting the miracle hiding in everyday things. I also use my work to denounce issues, with my words being used to demonstrate that another world is possible. I can be critical and sceptical. My characters aren’t always humans; sometimes they are objects, animals, ideas taking shape that need to be expressed, sometimes to provoke a response or change things. I’m passionate about science, music and cinema. Everything that can shift ancient paradigms and offer new perspectives on issues serves to inspire my playwrighting. I write, I think, based on life itself; from inside and out. I allow myself to be seduced by ideas, and I convert them into topics. The rest is just work.» (Lola G. Otero).
