Sinopsis. / Synopsis.

La víspera de la celebración del referéndum sobre la independencia de Cataluña, nace en Madrid la hija de Jorge y Eulalia. Al día siguiente, en Barcelona, los cuñados Jaume y Montse ejercen su derecho a voto a primera hora de la mañana y, a pesar de las reticencias de Jaume, militante independentista, se van inmediatamente hacia Madrid para conocer a su sobrina. Unas horas más tarde, en la planta de neo-natos de una clínica madrileña, tiene lugar el encuentro de los cuatro personajes; éste pondrá en evidencia la manera de relacionarse entre ellos a partir de las ideas de cada uno.

On the eve of the very day that Catalonia’s long-awaited referendum on independence for Catalonia is held, Jorge and Eulalia’s daughter is born in Madrid. The next day in Barcelona, Eulalia’s sister and brother-in-law, Jaume and Montse, exercise their right to vote first thing in the morning and despite the reluctance of Jaume –a staunch separatist-, travel at once to Madrid to meet their niece. A few hours later, these four characters meet on the neonatal floor of a Madrid hospital, and how they relate to each other is openly displayed, through each one’s ideas.

¿Qué pasa cuándo en una misma familia las ideologías no coinciden sino que, además, son totalmente opuestas? Seguramente no existen familias de pensamiento único, ya sea en cuestiones políticas, culturales o incluso deportivas. Quería averiguar cómo nos relacionamos en círculos muy cercanos con ideas muy distintas. En este caso, además, en un contexto de actualidad.

What happens when ideologies within the same family don’t just differ but are completely opposed? Surely, there are no families of a single mindset, whether in political, cultural, or even sports matters. I wanted to explore how we relate within very close circles despite holding very different ideas. In this case, moreover, set in a current context.

Biografía. / Biography.

Elisenda Guiu es dramaturga, guionista de televisión, autora de cuentos... Su dedicación a la escritura abarca distintos géneros y en todos ellos se siente cómoda. En su ciudad natal, estudió Humanidades y se licenció en Periodismo. Fue en el aula de la universidad cuando entró en contacto con el teatro y confirmó que su relación con él sería sólo detrás del telón. En el Obrador de la Sala Beckett encontró, como tantas otras compañeras, el lugar idóneo donde empaparse de escritura teatral, con destacadas figuras de la dramaturgia contemporánea. Su primera obra estrenada, Magnetismos, resultó seleccionada para publicarse en la colección Teatroautor Exprés de la Fundación SGAE. También ha publicado Explica'm un conte, que se estrenaría posteriormente en Teatre de Ponent (con dirección de Mariona Casanovas, 2016) y El naixement, ambas a cargo de Arola Editors. En 2016, participó en el VI Torneo de Dramaturgia de Temporada Alta con el texto No és un adéu, que pasó a la semifinal. Su obra Indigestión le valió el Premio Ciutat de Tarragona 2017 en la categoría de Guión de Ficción Radiofónica, y en 2019 llega a escena en la Sala Trono de Tarragona. En la actualidad, sigue dedicándose a contar historias.

Elisenda Guiu is a playwright, television screenwriter and short story author whose dedication to writing spans multiple genres, all of which she navigates with ease. In her hometown, she studied Humanities and earned a degree in Journalism. It was in a university classroom that she first came into contact with theatre and realized that her relationship with it would remain strictly behind the curtain. At the Obrador of Sala Beckett she found, like so many other peers, the perfect space to immerse herself in playwriting, guided by prominent figures of contemporary dramaturgy. Her first staged play, Magnetismos, was selected for publication in the Teatroautor Exprés collection by Fundación SGAE. She has also published Explica'm un conte, later premiered at Teatre de Ponent (directed by Mariona Casanovas, 2016), and El naixement, both released by Arola Editors. In 2016, she took part in the VI Torneig de Dramatúrgia at Temporada Alta with the play No és un adéu, which made it to the semifinals. Her work Indigestión earned her the Ciutat de Tarragona Award 2017 in the category of Fiction Radio Script, and in 2019 it was brought to the stage at Sala Trono in Tarragona. She continues today devoted to the craft of storytelling.

Escritura. / Style.

Un programa televisivo que lo da todo por la audiencia. Las relaciones familiares con diferencias ideológicas. La crisis de los refugiados. La burocracia en un entierro. La doble cara de la maternidad... Al repasar los temas de las obras de Elisenda Guiu, se descubre una clara necesidad de reflejar la actualidad, directa o indirectamente. Los diálogos cortos y picados muestran también este afán de realidad, de captar el ahora y aquí. Pero a menudo los elementos más actuales se convierten también en un pretexto para adentrarse en el universo de las relaciones y tratar temas universales como el miedo, la amistad o el amor. Apasionada del mundo del vino, ha escrito también varias historias en las que este resulta protagonista. Su género favorito es la tragicomedia, mezclando el drama y la comedia, como la vida misma.

A television programme that gives it all for the audience. Family relationships with ideological differences. The refugee crisis. Bureaucracy at funerals. The double face of maternity, etc. A study of the topics covered in the works of Elisenda Guiu reveals a clear necessity to reflect contemporary issues, whether directly or indirectly. The short and snappy dialogues also outline this desire for reality, and for encapsulating the here and now. But often, the most contemporary elements also become a pretext through which one can delve into the universe of relationships, and deal with universal themes such as fear, friendship and love. Passionate about wine, she has also written several stories revolving around this drink. Her favourite genre is tragicomedy, which comprises a mixture of drama and comedy, much like life itself.
