Daniel J. Meyer (Buenos Aires, 1982) es dramaturgo, director teatral y profesor de dramaturgia. Estudió Artes del Teatro en COSATYC/ANDAMIO 90, con especialización en dirección teatral e interpretación. Vive en Barcelona desde hace 21 años, donde ha desarrollado su trayectoria profesional. Es autor de varias obras teatrales, entre las que destaca A.K.A (Also Known As), traducida a diez idiomas y estrenada en diversos países (Argentina, Grecia –2024–, Finlandia –2024–, Florencia, Italia 2024, entre otros), publicada en catalán (Ed. Flyhard), castellano (Ed. Antígona) y alemán (Neofelis), y galardonada con múltiples premios (Premios MAX, Butaca, Florencio –Uruguay–, Premios Hugo –Argentina–, entre otros). Entre sus otras obras figuran UPPGIVENHET (Teatre Nacional de Catalunya, enero de 2023 – publicada en catalán por el TNC), Scratch (Villarroel, 2023 – publicada por la Fundación SGAE en una antología), Legado y Shoà. También ha escrito y dirigido todas las obras de DESCARTABLE TEATRO. La mayoría de sus textos están siendo traducidos a diversos idiomas debido a la proyección internacional que ha alcanzado en los últimos años, y varias de ellas se están traduciendo durante 2025. En diciembre de 2024 gana el Premio Eduardo Escalante (Premios Literarios Ciudad de Valencia) por su obra ¿Y ahora qué haremos?, que será publicada por Edicions Bromera. Para la temporada 2025/26 prepara Artiga, que se estrenará en Balaguer y hará temporada en Barcelona y Madrid. También está escribiendo nuevas obras tanto de teatro como de narrativa, y en proceso de preparación para dirigir otras producciones en próximas temporadas, para las que ha recibido becas de la Generalitat de Catalunya y del Ayuntamiento de Barcelona. Ha trabajado con diversas compañías como director, dramaturgo y/o asesor, y en el departamento de dirección de varios musicales de gran formato. En el ámbito pedagógico, ha impartido clases por todo el territorio y en distintas escuelas. Es socio fundador de la productora AKA TEATRO. Entre sus premios destacan: por A.K.A (Also Known As) – 2 Premios MAX (Autoría Revelación y Actor Protagonista), con candidaturas a Mejor Espectáculo de Pequeño Formato y Dirección; 4 Premios Butaca (Texto Teatral, Obra de Pequeño Formato, Dirección y Actor Protagonista); 3 Premios Teatre Barcelona (Texto Teatral, Obra de Pequeño Formato y Dirección); 1 Premio de la Crítica (Mejor Actor); Premio del Público del MIT de Ribadavia (Galicia); Premio del Público del Teatro del Mar (Mallorca); Premio Teatro Exprés de la Fundación SGAE; y Premio Florencio (Uruguay) a Mejor Espectáculo Extranjero (Temporada Alta Iberoamérica 2020, con el apoyo del IRLLULL); y Premios Hugo (Argentina) a Mejor Adaptación (a musical) y Mejor Actor Revelación. Daniel J. Meyer (Buenos Aires, 1982) is a playwright, theatre director, and dramaturgy teacher. He studied Theatre Arts at COSATYC/ANDAMIO 90, specialising in directing and acting. He has lived in Barcelona for 21 years, where he has developed his professional career. He is the author of several plays, including A.K.A (Also Known As), translated into ten languages and premiered in various countries (Argentina, Greece –2024–, Finland –2024–, Florence, Italy 2024, among others), published in Catalan (Ed. Flyhard), Spanish (Ed. Antígona), and German (Neofelis), and has received multiple awards (Premios MAX, Butaca, Florencio –Uruguay–, Premios Hugo –Argentina–, among others). His other works include UPPGIVENHET (Teatre Nacional de Catalunya, January 2023 – published in Catalan by TNC), Scratch (Villarroel, 2023 – published by Fundación SGAE in an anthology), Legado, and Shoà. He has also written and directed all the plays produced by DESCARTABLE TEATRO. Most of his plays are being translated into various languages due to the international attention his work has gained in recent years, and several of them are being translated throughout 2025. In December 2024, he received the Eduardo Escalante Prize (City of Valencia Literary Awards) for his play ¿Y ahora qué haremos?, which will be published by Edicions Bromera. For the 2025/26 season, he is preparing Artiga, which will premiere in Balaguer and have a run in Barcelona and Madrid. He is also writing new works in both theatre and narrative and is in the preparation phase for directing other plays in upcoming seasons, with the support of grants from the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Barcelona City Council. He has worked with theatre companies as a director, playwright, and/or advisor, and in the direction department of several large-scale musicals. As a teacher, he has taught courses throughout Spain and in various schools. He is a founding member of the production company AKA TEATRO. Escritura. / Style.

«Cuando escribo intento no pensar demasiado a priori. O sí, pero esa parte pertenece a parte de mi intimidad. Cuando escribo dejo que la pulsión de la obra y sus personajes, hablen por sí misma, y luego, ya hago el trabajo de ser mi propio corrector y quien moldee la forma y estilo adecuado para esa dramaturgia. Cada obra tiene su propio carácter y sus propias reglas, y casi mejor no delimitarlas durante el proceso de escritura. A mí, al menos, no me funciona. La música y el movimiento siempre están presentes cuando escribo. No puedo imaginar una obra sin saber cómo suena o al menos qué color sonoro tendrá y qué calidad de movimiento se percibe. Creo en el impulso, pero también en la constancia como condición sine qua non para llegar a buen (o algún) puerto. Creo en todo lo que he dicho, pero también es posible que en mi próximo proceso creativo me desdiga. Eso sí, sin nunca dejar de trabajar incansablemente.» (Daniel J. Meyer).

«When I write, I try not to think too far ahead. Well, sometimes yes, but this stays private. When I write, I let the flow of the piece and its characters talk for themselves. Then I play the role of my own editor, shaping the form and style so that they are perfect for each particular play. Each piece has its own character and own set of rules. It’s perhaps better to not restrict these during the writing process. At least, this doesn’t work for me. Music and movement are always present in my writing. I can’t imagine a piece without knowing what it sounds like, or at least what type of sound it will express, and what quality of movement is perceived. I believe in impulse, but I also believe in persistence as sine qua non to reach a good (or any) port. I believe in everything that I have said above, but there’s every chance that I won’t adhere to these rules in my next creative process.
