Biografía. / Biography.

«Nací en Barcelona el 1980. Estudié Interpretación en el Institut del Teatre de Barcelona, y obtuve la licenciatura con una pieza escrita por mi: Yo, Pierre. A partir de Moi, Pierre Rivière, ayant égorgé ma mère, ma soeur et mon frère. Empecé a trabajar con Sanchis Sinisterra, como actor. Después trabajé dos años en televisión. Me marcho a París con la Beca de la Fundación La Caixa para estudiar en el Conservatoire National Supérieur d'Art Dramatique de Paris. Allá me da clases de escritura François Bon ("Autobiographie des objets", "Pour Koltès"), etc. Y de interpretación Nada Strancar, Claude Stratz, Cécile García- Fogel. Vuelvo a España para trabajar como actor. Trabajo en varios montajes dirigidos entre ellos por José Sanchis Sinisterra ("Flechas del ángel del olvido" "Vagas noticias de Klamm"), Gerardo Vera ("Rey Lear"), Yvette Vigatà, Marta Gil Polo, y Magda Puyo, etc. He vivido en Madrid, Menorca, Barcelona y París. De vuelta a París escribo Niu, que ganó el premio del Teatre Nacional de Catalunya de nuevos dramaturgos. Niu es escogida entre más de 70 obras para ser presentada como ejercicio escénico en la Sala Tallers, en 2015 dirigida por Yvette Vigatà e interpretada por Cristina Arenas. La temporada siguiente el TNC publicó el texto teatral bajo el sello de Arola Editors. El libro fue presentado en la Librería Antinous con una lectura dramatizada, a cargo de Marta Ossó y dirigida esta vez por Loredana Volpe. Actualmente, hay dos traducciones en curso al francés y al español, y se está preparando el montaje en español para su estreno en Madrid, con la compañía La Salamandra, dirigido por Loredana Volpe. Voy a las clases de escritura creativa de Esmeralda Berbel. Recientemente, he terminado Souche, una obra escrita originalmente en francés y traducida al catalán por mi (bajo el nombre de Soca). También estoy escribiendo un nuevo texto a partir de un personaje de "Por quién doblan las campanas" de Hemingway y publico el relato «La embestida» en la sección de Nuevas Voces de la Revista ACTÚA, de AISGE, en España. En 2017 creo una compañía en París que se llama Le Comité des Exclus.» (Marc García Coté).

«I was born in Barcelona in 1980. I studied Acting at the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona, where I graduated with a piece I wrote myself, Yo, Pierre, based on Moi, Pierre Rivière, ayant égorgé ma mère, ma sœur et mon frère. I began working as an actor with José Sanchis Sinisterra and later spent two years working in television. I then moved to Paris with a grant from the Fundación La Caixa to study at the Conservatoire National Supérieur d’Art Dramatique de Paris, where I took writing classes with François Bon (Autobiographie des objets, Pour Koltès) and acting classes with Nada Strancar, Claude Stratz and Cécile García-Fogel. I returned to Spain to continue working as an actor, taking part in productions directed by, among others, José Sanchis Sinisterra (Flechas del ángel del olvido, Vagas noticias de Klamm), Gerardo Vera (King Lear), Yvette Vigatà, Marta Gil Polo and Magda Puyo. I have lived in Madrid, Menorca, Barcelona and Paris. Back in Paris, I wrote Niu, which won the Teatre Nacional de Catalunya Award for New Playwrights; selected from more than 70 works, it was presented as a stage exercise at Sala Tallers in 2015, directed by Yvette Vigatà and performed by Cristina Arenas. The following season, the TNC published the play with Arola Editors, and the book was presented at Antinous Bookshop with a staged reading performed by Marta Ossó and directed by Loredana Volpe. Two translations are currently in progress, into French and Spanish, and a Spanish production is being prepared for its premiere in Madrid with the company La Salamandra, directed by Loredana Volpe. I attend creative writing classes with Esmeralda Berbel. Recently, I completed Souche, a play originally written in French and translated into Catalan by myself under the title Soca. I am also writing a new text based on a character from Hemingway’s For Whom the Bell Tolls, and I have published the short story “La embestida” in the New Voices section of ACTÚA magazine, published by AISGE in Spain. In 2017, I founded a theatre company in Paris called Le Comité des Exclus.» (Marc García Coté).

Escritura. / Style.

«Me interesa investigar los cuerpos de los personajes. Buscar en esos cuerpos. Encontrar la respiración. En el alma y en los pliegues y arrugas de los cuerpos que imagino. Poner palabras a los cuerpos y al desgaste. Ver qué puedo extraer de ellos, en materia emocional. Me gusta estudiar las estructuras mentales. Hacer viajes interiores. Contradecirme. Dar espacio también a los frutos del azar de lo arbitrario. No hago, creo, un teatro de historias, aunque quién sabe. En todo caso cuento historias que parecen sueños. Procuro, en todo caso, hacer un teatro instintivo y emocional y visceral, y para la exploración y el juego de los actores. Porque lo soy. Un juego en el cual después de la construcción mental del artefacto y de unas líneas definidas, dejo la vía libre para que los personajes se expliquen sin límites. Escribo de pie, y por todo los lados. En voz alta. Soy actor cuando escribo. Disfruto cuando las historias caminan solas. Y tengo una fe íntima en los cuales la calle y los otros sin saberlo te cuentan cómo se acaba de desarrollar algo que parecía mío. Hay siempre un viaje, un viaje de un héroe. Pero cada texto es también, y eso es lo más humano que puedo aportar, mi propio viaje personal. Intento confiar en mis primeras versiones, las más primitivas, porqu malgré moi son las que dan más relieve a lo incontable.» (Marc García Coté).

«I’m interested in investigating the bodies of characters. And searching in those bodies. Finding the respiration. In the soul and in the folds and wrinkles of the bodies that I conjure up. Lending words to the bodies and their fatigue. Seeing what I can take from them in terms of emotional material. I like studying mental structures. And undergoing introspective journeys. And contradicting myself. I also like to set aside space for the random found in the arbitrary. I don’t make – at least, I think I don’t – a theatre of stories. But who knows? In any case, I tell stories that feel like dreams. I aim, in any case, to create an instinctive, emotional and visceral drama, to be explored and interpreted by actors. Because I am. An interpretation in which, after the mental construction of the artefact and several defined lines, I clear the path for the characters to explain who they really are without any limits. I write on my feet, and in all sorts of places. Out loud. When I write I am an actor. I enjoy it when the stories develop on their own accord. There is always a journey. A hero’s journey. But each text also represents my own personal journey, which is the most human thing that I can contribute. I try to trust in my early drafts, the most primitive versions, as – despite my best efforts – it is these that give most prominence to the untellable.» (Marc García Coté).
