Sinopsis. / Synopsis.
Una canción. Una melodía. La letra de una canción sin su melodía. El tararear grabado en los muros de la prisión. Un grafiti en la pared de un colegio. Un edificio en dos tiempos. De un lado, almacén de cuerpos condenados a no ser. Del otro, presunto templo de sabiduría y conocimiento. ¿Y en ambos? En ambos silencio. Un “no lugar” que desde la liminalidad borra a los individuos. Conversaciones al otro lado de un telón que, al atravesarlo, nos lleva a otro tiempo. Si los muros guardasen las voces de aquellos que contuvieron en su interior ¿Cómo dialogarían pasado, presente y futuro? ¿En qué idioma lo harían? ¿Qué sentido utilizarían para escucharse? ¿Para leerse? Esta obra es una indagación en los objetos como contenedores matéricos del recuerdo al mismo tiempo que se sumerge en el “no lugar” donde confluyen la memoria y el olvido.
A song. A melody. The lyrics of a song without its melody. A humming etched into the walls of a prison. A graffiti on a school wall. A building existing in two times. On one side, a warehouse of bodies condemned to nonexistence. On the other, a presumed temple of wisdom and knowledge. And in both? Silence. A "non-place" that, from its liminality, erases individuals. Conversations beyond a curtain that, when crossed, take us to another time. If walls could hold the voices of those they have contained, how would the past, present, and future dialogue? In what language would they speak? Through what sense would they listen to one another? Read one another? This work delves into objects as material containers of memory while immersing itself in the "non-place" where memory and oblivion converge.

Una grieta en la tierra habla de una fractura en donde la vida y la memoria revolucionan por medio del tiempo de la poesía. En esta grieta se recuperan pequeños gestos analógicos que pueden traducir en otros lenguajes e imágenes los silencios, el miedo que impusieron la guerra, la dictadura, adentro de los cuerpos, en el fondo de las representaciones del recuerdo y los sistemas educativos. El texto defiende una política de lo sutil que surge de animismos desafiantes a la racionalidad moderna, a sus jerarquías de poder establecidas entre “lo vivo” y “lo inerte”. Resquicios rebeldes que nos hablan de otras maneras de conocer el mundo en el que nosotras no somos quienes miramos a las cosas, son las cosas las que nos miran y nos reclaman. Un posicionamiento perceptivo, que es a su vez, un posicionamiento político. Y así, la grieta se abre.
A crack in the earth speaks of a fracture where life and memory are revolutionized through the time of poetry. In this crack, small analog gestures are recovered, capable of translating into other languages and images the silences and fear imposed by war and dictatorship—within bodies, at the core of memory representations, and within educational systems. The text advocates for a politics of subtlety that emerges from animisms challenging modern rationality and its established power hierarchies between "the living" and "the inert." Rebellious remnants that speak to us of other ways of understanding the world—where it is not we who look at things, but things that look at us and call out to us. A perceptual stance that is, at the same time, a political stance. And so, the crack opens.

Biografía. / Biography.
Alma inquieta. Lectora insaciable. Escritora asalvajada. "Letraherida". Con estas palabras se define Carmela Novara, quien en los últimos años ha desplazado el foco de su escritura desde el espacio académico al entorno creativo. Doctora en Historia y Artes por la Universidad de Granada (2021), esta autora ha dedicado largo tiempo a reflexionar acerca de las posibilidades del arte para castigar, pero sobre todo, para sobrevivir. Con esa esperanza, en 2020, ante el fin del mundo, decidió construir uno propio, comenzando así su andadura en la escritura dramática como forma de indagación en otras forma posibles de las palabras y el silencio como memoria. Nieves Rodríguez, Eva Redondo, Mariana de la Mata, José Sanchís Sinisterra, Amaranta Osorio, Shaday Larios y Xabier Bobés han sido sus maestros en el devenir de su herida literaria.
Restless soul. Insatiable reader. Untamed writer. "Wordstruck." These are the words Carmela Novara uses to define herself. In recent years, she has shifted her focus from academic writing to creative endeavors. A Ph.D. in History and Arts from the University of Granada (2021), this author has spent a long time reflecting on art's capacity to punish but, above all, to survive. With that hope in mind, in 2020, faced with the end of the world, she decided to build one of her own, embarking on a journey into dramatic writing as a means of exploring other possible forms of words and silence as memory. Nieves Rodríguez, Eva Redondo, Mariana de la Mata, José Sanchís Sinisterra, Amaranta Osorio, Shaday Larios, and Xabier Bobés have been her mentors in the unfolding of her literary wound.
Escritura. / Style.
«¿Qué hay detrás de mis obras? ¿Qué esconden? ¿Qué revelan? ¡Ay de mí si lo supiera! El acto de la escritura misma como confesión, eso habita mi mente. Lo que se dice. Lo que no. En mis textos hay enigmas, secretos, olvidos, estigmas, miedo y... Silencio. Mucho silencio. Esto es lo que me apasiona de la escritura. El juego con el silencio. ¿Cómo escribir aquello de lo que no se puede hablar? ¿Cómo traducir en palabras aquello para lo que ni tan siquiera hay sonido? Y sin embargo... Sin embargo esperanza, porque no concibo la escritura, sino como el compromiso rebelde de quien no quiere callar. Por eso, en mis textos abordo la violencia en las relaciones humanas, ya sea en el ámbito de la pareja, en el terreno de nuestra posición frente al pasado, en el patio de un colegio, en la casa, o en el campo de la sanidad. Mis obras parten del silencio y van en su busca en una forma que se apoya también en la poética de la acotación y el personaje narrador. Vaya, parece que sí sé bastante qué acerca de lo que hay detrás. Pero sobre todo, me importa quién hay delante: la primera lectora y su tiempo. Porque cualquier lector, cualquier lectora, es mi primer lector. Con él. Con ella, comparto este silencioso mundo plagado de sonidos. Para ella son mis letras. En ella deposito mi esperanza.» (Carmela Novara).
«What lies behind my works? What do they hide? What do they reveal? Woe is me if I knew! The very act of writing as confession—that is what occupies my mind. What is said. What is not. My texts contain enigmas, secrets, forgetfulness, stigmas, fear, and… Silence. So much silence. This is what fascinates me about writing: the play with silence. How do you write about that which cannot be spoken? How do you translate into words something for which there isn’t even a sound? And yet... Yet there is hope, because I cannot conceive of writing as anything other than the rebellious commitment of someone who refuses to stay silent. That is why, in my texts, I address violence in human relationships, whether within the sphere of a couple, in the terrain of our position toward the past, in a schoolyard, in the home, or within the field of healthcare. My works emerge from silence and seek it out, employing a form that also draws upon the poetics of stage directions and the narrative character. Well, it seems I do know quite a bit about what lies behind. But above all, what matters to me is who stands in front: the first reader and their time. Because every reader is my first reader. With them, I share this silent world brimming with sounds. For them, my words are written. In them, I place my hope.» (Carmela Novara).
