Sinopsis. / Synopsis.

No nos suelen preparar para la muerte. En este caso son dos hermanos de unos cincuenta años los que no saben afrontar la ausencia de su madre. Han vivido su día a día como si esto no fuese a ocurrir nunca, como si negándolo fuesen a tenerla con ellos para siempre. En la obra no sabemos si ella ha muerto, si va a morir, si está ingresada... Sabemos que sus dos hijos la esperan en la casa donde crecieron como si fuese a entrar por la puerta en cualquier momento. Mientras Juan se posiciona firmemente en que esto va a suceder, Paco oscila entre darle la razón y lo contrario. Entre lo que desearía y le interesa creer, y lo que conoce. Lo importante no es si ella va a llegar en algún momento, lo importante es que los dos la esperan para huir de su presente: de sus matrimonios, sus hijos, sus trabajos... Esto les hace llegar a perder la noción del tiempo y quedarse atrapados en el pasado hasta el punto de ser incapaces de reconocer cuál es su realidad.

We are rarely prepared for death. In this story, two siblings around fifty years old struggle to face the absence of their mother. They have lived each day as if this would never happen, as if by denying it, they could keep her with them forever. In the play, it’s unclear whether she has died, is about to die, or is hospitalized... We know only that her two children wait for her in the house where they grew up, as if she might walk through the door at any moment. While Juan firmly insists she will come, Paco wavers between agreeing and doubting—between what he wishes and wants to believe, and what he actually knows. The important thing is not whether she will arrive, but that both wait for her to escape their present lives: their marriages, their children, their jobs... This causes them to lose track of time and become trapped in the past to the point of being unable to recognize their reality.

Lumbre es un texto que nace, por una parte, del anhelo de comprender más los núcleos familiares. Cómo afectan la muerte, el pasado y el dolor hasta el punto de alejarte de tu presente y quedarte atrapado en un lugar y un tiempo que ya no existen. Por otra parte, nace también del deseo de escribir una tragedia contemporánea, indagando en la pregunta de ¿cuál es ahora nuestra tragedia? Acercándome a autores como Maeterlinck, Strindberg y Pinter, quienes plasman en sus obras cómo lo trágico está presente en nuestra cotidianidad. Cómo, aunque no vivamos prestándole la suficiente atención, lo sobrenatural, lo misterioso y lo que no responde a esquemas lógicos, convive constantemente con nosotros.

Lumbre is a text born, on one hand, from the longing to better understand family dynamics—how death, the past, and pain affect us to the point of distancing ourselves from the present and becoming trapped in a place and time that no longer exist. On the other hand, it also arises from the desire to write a contemporary tragedy, exploring the question: what is our tragedy today? Drawing inspiration from authors like Maeterlinck, Strindberg, and Pinter, who reveal how the tragic is woven into our everyday lives. How, even if we don’t pay close attention, the supernatural, the mysterious, and the illogical coexist with us constantly.

Biografía. / Biography.

Aurora Parrilla Camacho inicia su recorrido artístico en la danza. Por ello, decide estudiar Bachillerato de Artes Escénicas en el I.E.S. Antonio Machado de Alcalá de Henares. Es allí donde descubre su vocación teatral, recibiendo formación del pedagogo, dramaturgo y director Javier De Dios. Se interesa principalmente por la interpretación y realiza talleres basados en el método de Mijaíl Chéjov impartidos por David Ojeda. En 2016 asiste al III Taller de Dramaturgia de La Joven Compañía coordinado por Fernando J. López, donde tiene encuentros con distintos dramaturgos contemporáneos, y en 2017 comienza su carrera de Dirección Escénica y Dramaturgia en la RESAD. Desde entonces concilia su labor de dramaturga y directora, concibiendo ambas tareas como indisolubles en sus procesos creativos.

Aurora Parrilla Camacho began her artistic journey through dance, which led her to study Performing Arts for her Baccalaureate at I.E.S. Antonio Machado in Alcalá de Henares. It was there that she discovered her passion for theatre, receiving training from pedagogue, playwright and director Javier De Dios. Drawn especially to acting, she took workshops based on Michael Chekhov’s method, taught by David Ojeda. In 2016, she took part in the 3rd Playwriting Workshop of La Joven Compañía, coordinated by Fernando J. López, where she met various contemporary playwrights. The following year, she began her studies in Directing and Playwriting at RESAD. Since then, she has combined her work as a playwright and director, understanding both roles as inseparable in her creative process.

Escritura. / Style.

«Escribo para comprender. Comprender me lleva a perdonar o a perdonarme con aquello que me duele. Mis creaciones nacen de una necesidad reconciliadora con el mundo en el que vivimos, con los acontecimientos que vemos, sufrimos o provocamos. Son algo así como una oportunidad de desahogo y denuncia. También es un lugar de investigación, de poner en cuestión las realidades que se nos cuentan como verdaderas en nuestro día a día, debatirlas en público, hacer reflexionar, traspasar fronteras y encontrar luces y sombras en aquellos lugares que nos son desconocidos. En mis textos he tratado temas como la violencia machista, la búsqueda de la verdad, las estructuras de poder, el desapego y el miedo al paso irrevocable del tiempo. A la hora de escribir tengo muy presentes a Antón Chéjov y Harold Pinter, siendo para mí, no solo referentes tanto de estilo como de temas, sino también impulsores de que hoy por hoy quiera dedicarme a la dramaturgia.» (Aurora Parrilla Camacho).

My creations are born from a reconciliatory need: to make peace with the world we live in, with the events we witness, endure, or even cause. They are a way to vent, to denounce. They are also a space for inquiry, for questioning the so-called truths we’re told in our daily lives—questioning them publicly, provoking reflection, crossing boundaries, and finding light and shadow in the places we don't yet know. My work has explored themes such as gender-based violence, the search for truth, power structures, emotional detachment, and the fear of time’s irreversible passing. When I write, I always have Anton Chekhov and Harold Pinter in mind—not only as stylistic and thematic references, but as the very reason I chose to pursue playwriting.» (Aurora Parrilla Camacho).
